CROSSING THE LINE / OPEN GOAL
CLIENT - Open Goal
ROLE - Self Shooting PD
One of the UK’s leading football podcasts, Open Goal took on the sponsorship of Broomhill FC, a team in the Scottish Lowland League. The aim was to bring all the experience and business skill that the Open Goal team had to take a team up through the ranks. Myself and Tim Askew were the PDs on the project, doing all the filming; from rigging dressing room cameras to master interviews, we spent 15 months closely involved with every aspect of the team’s journey. The result was a 10 episode series on YouTube which has since accumulated more than 1 million views. While the team didn’t win promotion, they had some good results and the story where the manager shows vulnerability about his inexperience in the role, was a compelling one.
While our role was simple the filming and audio elements for the most part, though we were instrumental in identifying developing stories in the team, for Episode 9 we were fully in charge of Directing as well. This episode followed the U20s team, coached by the Halliday brothers, as they went on a cup run.
