Edinburgh Rugby / Media Team

CLIENT - Edinburgh Rugby

ROLE - Camera Operator, Editor

I have filmed many sports, but actually played very few of those that I have filmed. So when I get the chance to film rugby, having played at a minor representative level in my youth, I always jump at the chance.

Edinburgh have an excellent in house capability, but sometimes there are only so many places you can be at once. So they bring me in for the bigger matches, such as the 1872 Cup or last year’s Challenge Cup Semi Final against Bath. The opponent being all the more significant because home fans could get up close to Finn Russell.

There’s a flow to these games, where it’s pretty manic running around beforehand catching bits such as fanzone activities, warm ups, etc which can be crazy if you’re trying to push out content at the same time, but when the match starts, its a good time to just settle in and focus on following the match play.

Most of the time I’m on the simple task of just being a camera operator, but at the last 1872 cup between Edinburgh and Glasgow, I also did some quick cuts of footage for them, just for the social feed.

I enjoy working with Edinburgh, especially as I know the team well by now, as well as in sports content generally because you get to be part of a team working on a specific goal, with enough pressure on to make it interesting.

In a small way, it provides a similar feeling to being part of a sports team.
